Focus and Scope

Introduction

The Journal of Development Practice (JDP), an open access peer-reviewed international e-journal, is an endeavour of the Assam Don Bosco University to create and provide a platform for emerging scholars, practitioners, academicians and policy makers to articulate their views, opinions and experiences in an academic and open ambience.

The journal encourages an approach that emphasizes the combination of theory with facts of everyday lived-experiences in the reconstruction of knowledge and reconversion of the same into practices for improvement of human life. An interdisciplinary framework drawn from multidisciplinary fields of Economics, Social work, Education, English, Political Science, Mass Communication, Psychology, Human Rights, Sociology, Philosophy and other Social Sciences and Humanities in addressing human problems is highly recommended. While established theories are respected, the JDP is open to repositioning epistemic claims, alternative views that arise out of field evidences and indigenous wisdom.

Objectives of JDP

1. To create a platform for academic expression for persons engaged in the field of development.

2. To provide space for academic articulation by aspiring socially conscious academicians, researchers, policy makers and development practitioners.

3. To document development innovations and entrepreneurial practices.

4. To articulate the perspectives of the marginalized and the oppressed.

5. To contribute towards construction of theories on development.

The Focus and Scope

The focus of JDP is to provide a platform for original works of academic nature related to society and development. In keeping with this focus JDP is open to papers and articles that are “Multi and interdisciplinary in nature” which are related to the subjects of

Peer Review Process

All manuscripts submitted to the Journal of Development Practice (JDP) are peer-reviewed according to the following procedure:

Double-blind Review

The Journal of Development Practice employs the double-blind peer review process, where both reviewers and authors remain anonymous throughout the review process.

Initial Editorial Review

The Editor-in-Chief evaluates each manuscript to determine if its topic and content is suitable for consideration by the Journal of Development Practice. Manuscripts that do not meet minimum criteria are returned to the authors within one week of receipt. This is in the best interest of the authors who could then decide to either modify as per the suggestions or to submit the manuscript to other suitable journals, avoiding delays from a lengthy review process that would nonetheless lead to rejection.

Peer Review Process

Manuscripts that pass the initial review are assigned to an Associate Editor, who selects several referees based on their expertise in that particular field. Each manuscript is reviewed by at least two referees under a double-blind peer review process, where both the referees and the authors are kept anonymous. Referees are asked to evaluate the manuscript based on its Originality of the Research, Quality of Literature Review, Methodological Rigor, Clarity of Results and Discussion, Implications of the Research.

Open Access Policy

All journal contents of the Journal of Development Practice (JDP) is open-accessed and allowed to be shared and adapted in accordance with the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0) License. Copyrights are retained by the authors, with first publication rights granted to the Journal of Development Practice. Authors also have full publishing rights without restrictions.

Publication Frequency

The Journal of Development Practice is an annual Journal usually in the month of November/December with scope for special issues in between on relevant themes.

JDP Policy of AI Use

Introduction

The Journal of Development Practice (JDP) acknowledges the increased importance of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in research, writing, and editorial work but the limits the extensive and deliberate use of AI for content generation to be published in future volumes of JDP. Although AI tools can assist academic practice, their application should be transparent, ethical and should not disadvantage originality, accountability or integrity. This policy is used with reference to authors, reviewers, and editors, who are engaged in the publication process of this journal. Breach will be considered as an infringement of the publications ethics and could lead to rejection, retraction or other remedial actions.

Acceptable Use of AI

AI technologies could be applied to assist but not to substitute the intellectual input of humans. Acceptable uses include:

• For Authors: Formatting, translation support, data visualization and grammar and language refinement.
• For Reviewers: Making sure that grammar is clear, plagiarism is identified, and review notes are structured (and independent judgment is made).
• For Editors: plagiarism detective, grammar review, metadata control, and efficiently manage workflow.

Prohibited Use of AI

AI applications should not be applied to undermine ethical and scholarly principles. Prohibited uses include:

• Including AI tools in the list of authors/reviewers.
• Production of complete manuscripts, reviews or editorial decisions without significant human-involvement.
• Manipulating, falsifying and fabricating data, citations or results.
• Creating unreliable or secret information with AI.
• Aboriginal to leave human responsibility (authorship, peer review, or editorial judgment) wholly to AI systems.
